Crestor, the active ingredient in Crestor, has been proven to be safe, effective, and selective for the Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patient, according to a new clinical trial.
The study, led by researchers from Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital and led by Dr. David K. H. Johnson, a research fellow of the American Diabetes Association, will test the drug in a large number of patients with T2DM, such as those with high levels of triglycerides, high levels of LDL cholesterol, and high levels of HDL cholesterol. The results of the study, which is being conducted by the Harvard Medical School, are expected to be published in the November/December issue of Diabetes Care.
In the trial, the researchers found that Crestor reduced LDL cholesterol in only a small number of patients, with a mean reduction of 1.4% (95% CI, 0.9% to 1.1%). They also found no significant difference in the HDL cholesterol level between patients taking a placebo and those on Crestor. They said this is the first large, randomized controlled trial to show Crestor has a positive effect on lowering cholesterol.
